Bali LovingNovember 01

Living in Perth certainly has its perks. We have the weather (let’s pretend this September never happened), the cruisey lifestyle, great beaches and a prospering culture of creativity. That being said, there is another very significant perk to Perth that mustn’t be overlooked – we are only three and a bit hours away from Bali.

I heart Bali. And I’m going to tell you why…

Every time I travel there, I am blown away by the progress, the new establishments, the international palette of tourists and the calibre of service found just about anywhere on the island. The concepts are fresh, the food considered and the attention to detail is something to take note of. Bali really is coming into its own and is far more sophisticated than meets the eye.

I took a trip there recently and this time around we decided to stay in Seminyak. We wanted a relaxing holiday but still wanted to be close enough to cafes, restaurants and perhaps a few cheeky bars (I’d be lying if I said this was a detox trip). And the hotel of choice, the W Retreat & Spa Bali.

Well, hello holiday.

When our BMW X5 hotel car pulled up to what would have to be one of the most impressive receptions this side of Hollywood, we knew we had made the right decision. I believe our only word was “WOW”. This hotel knows how to make a statement. Huge open plan areas, over scaled pendant lights, resort white interior with a clever use of colour, a huge wall mural painted by Alec Monoply (an American street artist) and the largest cakes you’ve ever seen if your life. And then there was the view. Another “WOW”.

From there it just got better.

Our Spectacular Ocean Facing Room was, well, spectacular. The view was obviously incredible, but so was the aesthetic. Neutral tones with a twist of green, sexy light fittings, built-in Bose sound system (complete with one very cool W Hotel cd, which naturally became the soundtrack of the trip), large flat screen LED TV, stone bathrooms with a freestanding bath and an overhead automated skylight to let the sun shine in. I was in heaven.

The facilities within the hotel are also stunningly designed and something to write home about. Some of my favourite indulgences included the WET pool, W Lounge, AWAY Spa, Woobar and Starfish Bloo.

The W Retreat & Spa Bali is perfectly located in the heart of Seminyak and provides a fantastic launching pad to other nearby destinations. Worth checking out are Motel Mexicola, Potato Head, the classic Ku De Ta, Sarong, Petitenget, and Body Works for some original Bali massage.

This may have been my first time staying at the W, but it definitely won’t be my last and I’d highly recommended it to anyone. Just have a cocktail for me if you do!
